Respect In Sport
Respect in Sport USA protects children, coaches and organizations in the high-risk areas of bullying, harassment, neglect and abuse. It’s the only program of its kind in the United States and is delivered entirely online through the American Red Cross’ world-class distance learning platform.
- In the time it will take you to read this webpage, eight American children will have been abused by a parent, coach or activity leader.
- Approximately 70% of youth athletes leave sports entirely by the age of 13.
- Before the end of this very day, twelve children will die from abuse in the United States.
- As a result, both youth athletes and sport/recreational organizations are at risk in these areas.
- Background checks aren’t enough - only 5-10 percent of individuals engaging in criminal behavior involving children have a conviction on their record.
- Many behaviors with a profound negative impact on young people are not criminal. They undermine confidence, destroy self-esteem, promote bad behavior and drive people away from sports.
The Respect In Sport Solution
Implementing Respect in Sport USA educates coaches, activity leaders and volunteers to identify the warning signs of these high-risk behaviors, whether they occur on or off the field. But Respect in Sport USA doesn’t stop there - it teaches the specific legal responsibilities for intervention and reporting that are required to protect the athlete, the coach and the organization.- It helps your organization mitigate liability
- It serves as a proactive risk management program for your front line people
- It creates an audit trail of tangible evidence
